Psalm 46:10 - reads ...... “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
I was preparing a sermon for my preaching class this week and the text that I was assigned was Psalm 46. It is a very familiar passage. It start off with verse one and it reads God is our refuge and our strength.... well by the time the earth has shaken, the ground has spilt and all the confusion takes place GOD says in verse 10, BE STILL and KNOW that I am GOD. I immediately asked GOD are you for real??? How can I be still in a life that demands so much of me, how do I be still when I am ever present in a beautiful marriage, raising two wonderful boys, working a demanding job, pursuing higher education, teaching an awesome body of women, living as daughter, sister, friend... and just how do I be still in this.... again GOD it's me Kimberly are you for real??
Well, the truth is my sisters GOD is for real. When you study the text closer "BE STILL" really means to relax, to withdraw to let drop, abandon, relax, refrain, let alone, to be quiet,to show oneself slack. God is saying to us as Christians, relax, show yourself some slack and know that I am GOD! You can not do any of these many roles without me. You are human, and I am GOD!! BE STILL daughter and let me be GOD! When you take a moment and get stil before GOD and with GOD, God gives us the strength, direction, and guidance that we need to do all the many things on our todo list. God sends the right help, sister/friends, and family to help us make it through. God allows assignemnts to be pushed back, meetings to be cancelled, or fresh revelations. The bible says we are to "KNOW" that God is GOD. We serve a GOD that is knowable, approachable, creative, forgiving, honest, and capable to be all things to all people!
So I challenge all of us as we prepare for our weekends to take a moment today and "BE STILL!" Let God refresh your memory on who God is, What God can do, and what God will do for those who dillengently seek Him.
GOD's Peace,
Kimberly
